Dr. Larry G. Mills, and First Lady Bernice Mills, were married in 1983 and have raised a beautiful blended family of 12 children, with an ever growing number of grand and great-grand children.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Pastor Mills has not only encouraged the personal and spiritual growth of others, but also for himself through the pursuit of his own educational endeavors. He currently holds Bachelor Degrees in Special Education for Socially Maladjusted from Wayne State University, Business Management from the University of Phoenix, and Religious Education from Bethany Bible College. Because of his earnest desire to serve God and his family with his best, Pastor Mills earned Masters Degrees in Sacred Theology from Bethany Theological Seminary, and Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. With a continued commitment to giving his best through service he completed the Doctor of Sacred Theology program at Bethany Theological Seminary and is currently enrolled in the Organizational Leadership doctorate program at the University of Phoenix. But through it all Pastor Mills, who humbly refers to himself as "a lifelong learner", continues to give God the glory for the things He has enabled to happen.
Dr. Mills has served as the Pastor of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Orlando, FL since 1988. The church has experienced tremendous growth in ministry, as well as, the completion of three structural enhancement projects under his leadership. The current church building was built in 1993. In 1997 the church building was expanded and a new Development Center was built that currently hosts a certified school for VPK through Kindergarten, a full-size gymnasium, and a free community health center. In 2004 additional classrooms were added to the Development Center.
Pastor Mills' influence has spanned beyond Mt. Sinai with him serving as a faculty member of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, USA, Inc. since 1994, National Chair for the National Baptist Congress Married Couples Division, and former Director of Finance for the Florida General Baptist Association, Moderator of the West Coast Baptist Association for eight years, and Congress President for four years.
Pastor Mills is a strong advocate of spreading God's word and he travels throughout Florida as a visiting Evangelist/Revivalist. He travels abroad each year to preach and teach in a variety of overseas locations. To date those have included the Virgin Islands, Israel, Germany, Rome, Italy, Jamaica, the Bahamas, South Africa, Egypt and Greece including the Isle of Patmos, Philippi at the Jordan River of Europe, Athens at Mars Hill, Corinth and Turkey.
Prior to retiring from Lockheed Martin Corporation in February 2007, Dr. Mills experienced a rewarding career for 23 years in which he served as a Corporate Vice President of Human Resources and Business Conduct for Corporate Operations. His career accumulated numerous years of experience in human resource related duties. His role provided leadership for all Human Resource functions, Facilities Operations, Environmental, Health & Safety, International Operations in England, and Ethics for four divisions.
In the Orlando community, Dr. Mills is a board member of the Boy Scouts Executive Council, INROADS Executive Board of Directors, Metropolitan Orlando Urban League, he is affiliated with the local chapter of the NAACP, and The Good News Ministry. He has served in significant roles with the Private Industry Council of Orlando, Orange County Citizen's Review Board, Region III School Board District, Girl Scouts Executive Council, SCLC Greater Orlando Chapter, and has served on several other educational boards, to include, the Tutorial board for Orange County Jail Ministry.
With such a passion for serving mankind it is no surprise that his tireless efforts have been recognized by several notable entities and awards such as YMCA Black Achievers, Managerial and Leadership Excellence Awards, listed in "Who's Who in Black America", the "Manchester Who's Who Registry of Executives and Professionals", a recipient of the 2007 Alpha Phi Alpha Drum Major Award for Community Service, and a 2009 recipient of the Blue Indigo Achievers Award from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
With a lifelong commitment to Culture for Service and Service for Humanity, he has been a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. since 1972.
Dr. Mills is the author of a book entitled, "The Recovery of God's Purpose for the 21st Century Church." And he has been a contributing writer to two text books entitled, "Organizational Design in Manufacturing" for the University of Louisville, and two editions of "Marriage Matters: It's God's Will."
